ORGANIZING TIPS OF THE MONTH: OCTOBER 2006
Organize the Kitchen Before Holiday Preparation Begins
Wouldn’t it be nice to have some help in the kitchen? I can assist you in making your kitchen a pleasure to use. Email to get things All Sorted Out. Cheryl@organizeatlanta.com.
- Arrange the things in your kitchen where they are most convenient. Place dishes and glasses in cupboards near the dishwasher; store coffee supplies near the coffee pot; put pot holders near the stove and oven.
- If you have items that flop over in the cupboards and pantry, such as bags of rice or pasta, put them in clear plastic canisters for better use of storage space.
- Group like food items. Have sections for baking ingredients, breakfast items, snacks, canned vegetables, spices, soups, condiments.
- Make use of sturdy turntables to keep canned goods from getting hidden and forgotten when stored behind other cans.
- Use clear plastic bins to hold groups of small items on shelves. The bins will be easy for you to slide out and select what you need.
- Store infrequently used items on top shelves or in the back of cabinets. Do not take up prime real estate in your kitchen with things you rarely use.
- Place large favorite cooking utensils, such as ladles and cooking spoons, in sturdy crocks or pitchers on a counter. You will free up valuable drawer space.
- A way to make your kitchen instantly less cluttered is to clear off the front of your refrigerator. Hang children’s art in inexpensive frames and change out on a regular basis. File papers and photos. Put claim checks in your wallet or car.
- If a plastic storage container does not have a lid or visa versa, get rid of it.
- Practice safe storage. Never place heavy items on difficult to reach shelves.
