Before & After: Organizing STEM supplies for a local school
Article posted on Wednesday, February 14th, 2024 at 10:42 PMThe Situation
The elementary school that Laura’s son attended wanted to improve its STEM* program by giving teachers easier access to more donated “building” materials. The kids build and invent items using paper towel tubes, rubber bands, foam board, bottle caps, and much more. Current storage space was limited for Kindergarten through 5th grades.
*”STEM” is the latest buzz term in American education and stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.
The Solution
Small offices, closet spaces or corners of existing storage rooms were re-purposed for the 6 new STEM storage spaces that Laura designed. Heavy duty plastic shelving and clear plastic boxes were ordered, assembled and labeled to allow students and teachers to quickly add supplies to the boxes. Teachers are happy to find and access the needed supplies when preparing for STEM projects.
